About the project

TMS is providing demolition and reconstruction design for Tango Pier on Governors Island. Tango Pier is a T-shaped pier located on the southeast shoreline of Governors Island, extending approximately 225 feet into Buttermilk Channel. The stem of the pier measures approximately 20’-6” wide by 195 feet long. The pier’s T-head measures approximately 30 feet wide by 500 feet long.

Key parts of the contract include:

  • Pier designed to NYCDOB, SBS, and Appendix G standards for code and resiliency purposes.
  • Pier is to support ferry berthing
  • The designs shall provide for utilities in the pier and future expansion of the same.
  • Demolition and reconstruction of the pier will require close coordination with the Audubon Society to protect the Common Tern, a protected species, that use the pier as a nesting site, and the USACE/USCG and NYSDEC for other environmental regulations within NY Harbor.
